Ordnance Factory, Chandigarh (OFCD), was established in 1963 in collaboration with M/s Sumitomo Electric Inc, Japan to cater to the communication needs of India’s armed forces. OFCD has a core competency in manufacturing in the areas of communication cables, airfield lighting cables, top grade spring steel wires, cable harnesses for armoured vehicles, and optical devices for armoured vehicles.
OFCD has production facilities for wire drawing (copper and steel) in the range of 0.285 mm from 7.9/8 mm, tinning of copper wire, stranding up to seven strands, vacuum annealing, lead patenting (for spring steel wire), wire rod polishing (for spring steel wire), wire insulation (HDPE, LDPE, PVC), quadding, carbon taping, braiding up to 24 copper strands, metal armouring of cables, spring steel wires, assembly of day vision sights, and cable harnesses of armoured vehicles (Russian and MIL standard). The products, which are in the production pipeline, include-muzzle bore sight UPV 125 for T-90 tank, the uncooled thermal imaging sight for the 7.62 mm (MMG) and red dot sights for the 40 mm UBGL.
